1. Zero-Knowledge Architecture
Arkiv is built on a zero-knowledge security foundation. All documents, images, metadata, and OCR text are encrypted locally on your device before storage or synchronization. Encryption keys are derived from your master passphrase or 12-word recovery phrase. We do not store, possess, or have the technical means to access your keys or decrypt your vault.
2. Information We Collect
We collect zero personal data:
- No Accounts: You do not create an account with us to use Arkiv.
- No Telemetry or Tracking: We do not track actions, document contents, search terms, or device metrics.
- No Advertising Frameworks: Arkiv contains no third-party trackers, analytics, or ads.
- No Data Selling: We do not sell, rent, or monetize your information.
3. Device Permissions & On-Device Processing
- Camera: Used exclusively to scan paper documents on-device. Image data never leaves your device unencrypted.
- Biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID): Managed entirely by Apple's Secure Enclave for biometric vault unlocking. Biometric data is never accessible to the app.
- Vision OCR: All text extraction occurs 100% locally via Apple's Vision framework.
4. Cloud Synchronization
If you enable iCloud sync or custom S3 storage, your files are encrypted client-side with AES-256-GCM before transfer. Sync data is stored in your private iCloud database or your personal S3 bucket.
